More Advanced Tactics in Detecting Poker Tells

Here are more advanced techniques on how to discern poker tells especially in the middle of a poker game.

We can easily tell who's got poker nuts or high hands. These players often speak mildly and with few words, if any, because they know speaking in certain manners can sometimes be one of the obvious poker tells which give away a lot to the opponent. At times they may tinker with their chips casually, or look around offhandedly. They may lift themselves up their chair a bit for a more relaxed sitting position, obvious poker tells.

Among relevant poker tells is how the forehead reacts, with a coordinated eye movement that looks away or avoid direct contact. There's also the sudden pale or reddening complexion, a lazy yawn, a half gasp, or unsteady breathing. Most positive players touch the tip of the nose, some negative players try to cover the lips. An easier poker tell to detect is when a player is eating, drinking, or smoking.

We should especially watch two to three players on our left side, how they react when we tighten a call. Also, we may try to gently call them with our two trapping ace pairs. If these players are talking or doing something else and suddenly one of them gets a raising hand, that's a sure poker tell. We'd see for sure that the talking or whatever it was they were doing would stop. The one who got the raising hand would stop first, of course. Then probably, the guilty party would slightly squeeze in the chair, careful not to be too obvious with it. Just imagine if we needed a good hand from playing a bad one and something like this poker tell happens.

If say, we are playing in a no-limit game with low blinds and everything is going fast. In cases like this it would be hard to pick up poker tells from players, especially if we're in a tournament. It would be helpful if we take notice of tilting players, tired-looking players, drinks, chip stacking styles, sitting styles, calling and raising times, hats, types of clothes being worn, sunglasses, and other poker tells we can pick up from players before we take a sit. A good poker tell is the orderliness of the chip stacks - a tidy chip heap is a poker tell of a tight player.

If we look hard enough poker tells are scattered all over poker tables.
